Fire broke out in the Szent Imre Hospital in Budapest – PHOTOS, VIDEO
The fire department was alerted that a fire broke out in a hospital in district XI in Budapest at 7:30 in the morning this Sunday. The fire department ordered a large number of official firefighters to the scene.
Máté Kisdi, the spokesman of National Directorate for Disaster Management informed MTI that the fire broke out in the ground floor in a detoxication room in the multi-storey building.
The firefighter rushed to the scene in great numbers; a total of 70 firefighters arrived to the scene with 18 vehicles.
The fire was successfully extinguished by the firefighters and further spreading of the fire was also prevented.
56 patients had to be evacuated from the building. Most of them were reassigned to other departments within the hospital, but four patients had to be taken by ambulance to another hospital.
Pál Győrfi, the spokesman of the Hungarian National Ambulance Service told MTI, that unfortunately, the accident had one victim;
due to serious injuries caused by the fire, a young woman had died.
In total 7 ambulance units rushed to the hospital and two men and one woman had to be taken to a different hospital’s toxicology department due to the suspicion of smoke inhalation.
Máté Kisdi added that the fire had impacted a roughly 5 m2 area, while the smoke affected an approximately 100 m2 area.
